First Ward Civic Council
The purpose of the First Ward Civic Council is to promote the civic and social welfare of residents and property owners living within or near the First Ward, and to promote and engage in activities for their use and benefit. We are a 501 (c) (3) organization.
Civic Council Achievements in the Last Two Years
- Established a community garden
- Established a website and email listing
- Established bi-monthly First Socials
- Designed and installed sign toppers (awarded a partial grant to cover the cost)
- Held a sign unveiling with Annise Parker having the honor to unveil our signs
- Prevented the relocation of a recycling center in the First Ward
- Held two successful fundraisers (Dharma Cafe Silent Auction and First Bash)
- Held a "Movie Night in the Garden" fund raiser for Urban Harvest
- Began the Arts District Designation process
Meeting Times and Location
The Civic Council meets every 2nd Thursday of odd numbered months. The meetings begin at 6:30 PM and usually last one hour. The meetings are held at Mallalieu United Methodist Church at 1918 Hickory Street (one block north of Crockett Street).
